“right people - wrong time” is the opener to dan's "hopeless romantic" EP, and sets the scene with ambient guitars and vocals recorded in a shower before giving way to a driving disco rock groove that hooks the listener in with plucky guitar riffs and a pounding bassline.
lyrically it's inspired by some ill-timed relationships in the midst of an interstate move, and by that feeling of nostalgia for the past even though you didn't like the past in the past and were being nostalgic for that past's past at the time.
lyrics
i like the way my tears mix with the rain
they take away the dirt from yesterday
i follow thoughts that crumble into grains
clogging up my memory
drifting past excuses
so i say...
right people at the wrong time
(my tears mix with the rain)
cold kisses on a fault line
(the dirt from yesterday)
got the foundation for a woke mind
(it crumbles into grains)
found patience in my old signs
i miss my girl, i miss my friends
i don't know which, just one of them
seasons changing, make amends
things were always simpler then
it doesn't last no matter when
things were easy in the past
right people at the wrong time
(i miss my girl, i miss my friends)
cold kisses on a fault line
(no matter which, just one of them)
foundations keeping me fine
(changing seasons, make amends)
got to right wrongs in my mind
i miss my girl, i miss my friends
no matter which, just one of them
i miss my girl, i miss my friends
all these things i'd do again
all these things i'd do again
all these things i'd do again
